An important part of the relocation of companies points to Nuevo León because it has been preparing for more than a decade and it is a healthy macroeconomy. However, some infrastructure issues must be improved, such as the supply of industrial buildings, Rodolfo Hernández Sada, executive director of International Business and head of the International Desk in Santander, told El Economista.

Currently, 39 investment announcements have been identified for 26 billion dollars in 2023, although not all of them will be implemented in one year, since they include multi-year investments, added the manager.

According to the report of the Variable Income Strategy of Mexico, Monthly Nearshoring, of Banco Santander, corresponding to the month of March, indicates that "even so, of these announcements, 30% correspond to the automotive industry and more than half of them are located in the northern states of Mexico, such as Nuevo León, Coahuila and Sonora. Let us remember that in 2022 Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Mexico reached 35 billion dollars”.

It adds that FDI in Nuevo León increased 69% in the last three years, placing it as the second destination, after Mexico City with 6,947 million dollars between 2020 and 2022, which means 17.3% of total FDI in the country.

Another analysis on Santander's nearshoring indicates that in the relocation of companies there will be business opportunities, mainly in the vehicle and auto parts and electronic components sectors.
