Infrastructure and housing sectors revive construction, but costs rise

The construction sector has begun to see a resurgence in activity driven by new housing and infrastructure projects; however, this increased momentum has also impacted inflation due to higher demand for materials and labor.

According to a recent report by the National Center for Cost Engineering (CEICO)—based on data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI)—industry costs rose by 5.79% year-on-year as of June 2026, a rate exceeding general inflation (3.37%).

According to INEGI data, the production value of construction companies—based on seasonally adjusted figures—grew by 6.9% year-on-year as of June 2026.

By project type, the production value of building construction (including housing) fell by 5.5% year-on-year; nevertheless, it accounted for 44.8% of the industry's total activity.
