PepsiCo México expands logistics network and invests 3,400 million pesos

After investing 3.4 billion pesos, PepsiCo México launched two distribution and logistics centers in Huejotzingo, Puebla, and Ciudad Obregón, Sonora.

The transformation of the logistics network of primary and secondary warehouses of the company is part of an investment plan for 80 billion pesos.

This strategy was announced by the PepsiCo Mexico System in May 2019 and has been maintained despite the context presented by the health contingency.

So far, six other projects have been delivered in Huajuapan de León, Oaxaca; La Paz, Baja California Sur; Los Mochis, Sinaloa; San Quintín, Baja California, Valle de Bravo and San Juan Tlalpizahuac, State of Mexico.

According to PepsiCo Mexico, the Puebla service mixing center (SMC) allows meeting the logistics needs of 29 distribution centers and 15 product exchange centers (CIP) in the central and southeastern regions of the country.

Since its start of operations last June, it directly employs 310 people, of which 50% are women.

Regarding the supply chain, it will contribute to increasing the storage capacity of the company with 17 thousand pallet positions.

In addition, it is the first PepsiCo logistics center in Latin America to have LEED Silver, Distinctive A and Fitwel two-star certifications.

For its part, the SMC of Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, will serve 13 Cedis, three CIP and 10 SMC for the northwest region, with economic benefits in Sonora, Sinaloa, Baja California and Baja California Sur.

It will also offer exports to the United States, Chile, Central America and the Caribbean and will serve 35% of the wholesale channels and 50% of the self-service channels.

The property has 19 loading docks and its storage capacity is 9,210 pallet positions.

“PepsiCo México has an important social and economic footprint in Sonora, where it is a source of employment for more than three thousand people. Its infrastructure in the entity includes 13 Cedis, two warehouses and two production plants, ”the company explained.

It is worth mentioning that the objective of the company's logistics transformation strategy is to increase the level of customer service.

As well as generating economic benefits in the localities and creating sustainable operations with the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.

“From 2019 to date, we have not only invested in infrastructure, but also in the Mexican countryside, in our sustainability agenda and in community development thanks to the PepsiCo Foundation,” said Roberto Martínez, president of PepsiCo Mexico.

Of the 200 countries where PepsiCo has a presence, Mexico is its second largest market after the United States, with 275 warehouses and 15 plants throughout the territory.
