MG Motor will double its spare parts warehouse in Mexico
Expansión | March 29, 2023 |

The Chinese brand decided to expand its storage capacity given the accelerated growth it has had in sales since it arrived in the Mexican market in 2020.

MG Motor will invest 200 million pesos in the next three months to grow its spare parts storage capacity in Mexico by 2.5 times, from the 206,000 pieces it currently has in its San Luis Potosí warehouse.

Diego García, the firm's after-sales director in the country, asserted that the expansion corresponds to the growth that they are forecasting in sales for this year, which implies increasing their inventory of spare parts for the five new models that they will be presenting this year, among they, two that are not internal combustion, that is, they do not consume gasoline.

The Parts Distribution Center (PDC) is located in the Millennium Industrial Park in San Luis Potosí, and has 3,500 square meters of space, a figure that is intended to increase to 10,000 square meters, for which will move to another ship within the same park. Currently, the company has invested close to 150 million pesos in its spare parts warehouse, to which the 200 million pesos announced this week will be added.

“Let's put it in perspective: 10,000 square meters is twice the storage capacity of today's competitors with twice the market share of us.

So, for every percentage point that we have in market share in sales, we have double the square meters to store spare parts than other brands have”, asserts García.

Most of the spare parts come from China, while a small portion corresponds to local suppliers, mainly accessories, oils and tires.

On average, MG Motor receives 25 maritime containers and between 10 and 15 air shipments, the latter being those that correspond to those of "greatest urgency." However, of the total number of imported parts, around 5% or less corresponds to air transportation and 95% to sea transportation.
