FDI in Canada in Querétaro triples the figure for 2020

During 2021, the entity received 156.6 million dollars (mdd) of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from Canada, ranking second with the largest issuance of capital to the state; this amount is the highest of that origin since 2018.

Canadian investment last year is more than three times greater than the 43.7 million dollars that were captured in 2020; Similarly, it is 78.4% higher than the 87.8 million dollars received in 2019, according to records from the Ministry of Economy (SE).

However, the figure is still 15.7% below the 185.8 million dollars received in 2018. During 2021, Canada was the second largest issuer of foreign investment to the state, only below Spain, which issued 204.1 million dollars.

During that year, Querétaro was the sixth recipient of Canadian investment in the country, capturing 7.5% (156.6 million dollars) of the total Canadian investment received by Mexico, which amounted to 2,070.9 million dollars.

In 2021, Zacatecas was the main recipient of Canadian investment, absorbing 15.6% (323.6 million dollars); followed by Durango with 13.2% (273.3 million dollars), Guerrero, 13% (269 million dollars); Chihuahua with 9% (188.2 million dollars); Mexico City with 8.9% (183.9 million dollars); and Queretaro.

Regarding the accumulated Canadian investment from 1999 to 2021, Querétaro is placed as the eighth recipient, accumulating 2,218.6 million dollars, 4.7% of the 47,023.9 million dollars that Mexico has received from that origin.

In the accumulated from 1999 to 2021, Canadian investment in the entity amounts to 2,218.6 million dollars, that is, it contributes with 11.6% of the 19,066.4 million dollars of total foreign investment that Querétaro has received in that period, it is the third origin with the highest injection of FDI in the state.

Above Canada, the list is led by the United States, which contributes 32.7% of the foreign investment received by the state (6,235.9 million dollars) and Spain with 18.4% (3,515.8 million dollars).
