Holcim Mexico delivered its first sustainable home, which is part of its "Houses of the Future" project.

The objective of the cement plant is to halve the carbon dioxide emissions emitted by households, using local materials at affordable prices.

The construction of this first house took 90 days to complete, and it was delivered in Tlayacapan, Morelos to Ariana Tufiño, originally from Cuautla.

It was developed under the “Seed Home” model, a type of progressive housing designed to grow according to the needs and resources of the families. The project allows, in addition to new rooms, to receive a second floor.

“Through innovation and smart design, it is possible to build low carbon quickly and cheaply. Likewise, we help people improve their quality of life,” said Jaime Hill Tinoco, CEO of Holcim Mexico.

On November 6, 2021, Holcim Mexico and the Échale organization began construction of the first sustainable home in the country.

To meet the proposed specifications, the Eco Friendly Supra cement and mortar portfolio was used in the foundation, slab and finishes.

In addition, the Ecoblock technology was applied, which takes advantage of local materials for the construction of walls.

Another objective of the program is to offer affordable housing solutions, to support low-income populations to access housing.

To achieve this, the program covers microfinance aspects, earth and cement construction solutions, as well as collective social housing.

This project was developed by Holcim worldwide, in countries such as India, Kenya, Canada and France.

The cement company hopes to show that sustainable materials are not limited by climate, geography, availability or construction techniques.

A second phase of the project will soon be launched in seven additional countries: Costa Rica, the Philippines, Russia, France, Spain, Greece and Germany.
