Health emergency opens opportunity for real estate tourism in Mexico
El Economista | November 27, 2021 |

The crises represent opportunities and this is reflected in the real estate segment, which has been revitalized in the tourist part since the health emergency, with Mexico being a more attractive destination for foreigners who invest in real estate in the country.

Industry actors agreed that although large tourist destinations continue to be attractive to foreigners seeking to purchase a home in the country, other cities have also appreciated and are beginning to attract the attention of foreigners.

"Real estate tourism is positioned as an axis that gives greater movement to the real estate industry sector in the country, this because Mexico has become a highly viable option for foreigners as a second home," Pedro Fernández commented in an interview Martínez, president of the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI).

Many foreigners saw the country as an option to take refuge from the closure of activities in different parts of the world, said Pedro Fernández.

The pandemic offered new opportunities, among them the reinforcement of the value of acquiring a home and incidentally, with the new reality we are seeing a change in the workplace with the new generation of digital nomads, added Fernández Martínez.

According to the president of the AMPI, Mexico meets the conditions that many foreigners seek, in terms of gastronomy or geography, so this is an incentive for more foreigners to seek to acquire a home in the national territory.

According to the manager, as a result of the pandemic there has been a phenomenon in cities that were not previously attractive to foreigners, since from the emergency, these localities begin to rebound in investments, especially for housing, from foreigners, highlighting cases such as Oaxaca and Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.

The Mexican Caribbean has been attractive to foreigners, so as a result of the emergency, real estate tourism in this part became more dynamic, causing many people to decide to spend the quarantine here, which caused many investors to buy land or properties, said William Silva, real estate consultant in the area.

According to Fernández Martínez, there are real estate firms in this part of the country that have grown by more than 50% in their operations, due to the great dynamism that has been seen in this period in this region, being an excellent investment moment.
