Electromobility, will define the direction of the automotive industry
RIM | January 03, 2022 |

The automotive industry is constantly evolving and one of the trends that has most impacted the sector in recent years is electromobility, being one of the main objectives of the large assemblers in the country and in the world.

General Motors, for example, recently unveiled its plans to offer special technology and components for the manufacture of electric vehicles, and the interesting thing is that these will not be limited to their own models, but will be available for units beyond their own. briefcase.

Audi is another manufacturer that has made electromobility the star of its production plans, since with the launch of the Audi e-tron GT at the beginning of the year, followed in the spring by the Audi Q4 e-tron, it doubled its range of models. fully electric.

In addition to this, the automaker with the four rings also contemplates investments for the next five years, this in order to accelerate the transition to become a provider of sustainable and connected premium mobility.

Looking to 2025, it plans to have more than 20 fully electric models and estimates to allocate around 18 billion euros just for the development of electrification and hybridization.

With the increasing number of electric models, the demands on the charging infrastructure will also increase, aware of this, assembly companies such as VW Group are expanding their network with strong partnerships around the world.

Audi is another automotive company that has started this path, testing a concept of premium urban recharging called Audi charging hub, which is aimed at those customers who do not have the possibility of recharging at home, it is also oriented to the management of possible demand peaks in the future.

The first Audi charging hub was opened to customers on December 23 in Nuremberg, Germany. The pilot project offers pre-reserved High Power Charging Stations (HPC) and a premium rest area to comfortably wait while the vehicle recharges.

Second-life lithium-ion batteries, sourced from test and development vehicles, function as energy storage systems, and photovoltaic modules on the roof provide additional green power.

With these types of actions, it is clear the path that the automotive industry will follow worldwide and that will influence the assemblers established in Mexico. This trend will also impact auto parts and components supplier companies, making it clear that if they want to continue in business, they will also have to adapt.
