Zeiss, a technology company of German origin, celebrated more than 100 years of presence in Mexico, a period in which it has managed to position itself as one of the most important brands in the fields of optics and optoelectronics.

During a press conference held to celebrate its 175-year history at a global level, Miguel González, general director of the company in our country, highlighted the important role that Mexico has had in the positioning of Zeiss.

Currently, with more than 4,200 employees, distributed in the CDMX offices, in the manufacturing plant in Tijuana, Baja California; and in two Industrial Metrology centers, in Apodaca, Nuevo León, and Silao, Guanajuato.

The executive added that, in Mexico, Zeiss has found a suitable terrain to grow its global operations and increase its business, which includes 60 sales locations, 30 production sites, 25 research and development facilities, and more than 35 thousand employees in the world.

Regarding the facilities they have in the country, the Tijuana manufacturing plant highlighted, in this regard, Guadalupe Sandoval, general manager of ZEISS Vision of said plant, explained that this factory produces lenses for vision care and currently has more of 3,900 employees, with plans to grow.

The facilities in Tijuana house five manufacturing facilities and a distribution center; and its production serves the market in America, several countries in Asia and Europe.

Questioning the growth potential of the optical market in the country, Peter Jablonski, director of ZEISS Vision Care Mexico, highlighted that it is estimated that in Mexico there are around 10 million lens wearers, in addition to the fact that 25% of the population has some visual problem, and it is forecast that by 2050, that index will grow to 50 percent.
