WeWork Latam Mexico boosts employment due to relocations

The process of relocating production chains or nearshoring is one of the factors that is driving the income in Mexico of WeWork Latam, a firm specialized in renting workspaces for companies, commented its executive director (CEO), Karen Scarpetta, in an interview with El Universal.

The board reported that the firm closed the first half of the year obtaining solid results, with an increase of more than 31% in its income compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the United States, WeWork declared bankruptcy on Monday night, after years of financial problems that led it to carry a debt of more than 10 billion dollars, filing for Chapter 11 of the United States bankruptcy law before a court in New Jersey. However, even in this circumstance, with the WeWork model, the organization is ready to operate in a matter of three months.

The firm takes on this role of accompanying those international companies that arrive in Mexico and need to establish their operations in the shortest time possible, with the most efficient cost possible. 

Karen Scarpetta clarified that in 2021 it was decided to establish the organization in WeWork LATAM with a level of independence that allowed it to establish a business association (join venture), something similar to a franchise.

“With this model we were able to establish financial independence, operational independence, independence as such to operate the business, and make different decisions, which is why any restructuring measure that WeWork Inc. takes in the United States will not affect the operation of WeWork LATAM” , he explained.

He explains that their hybrid work model is what has allowed them to advance in the face of contingencies such as the pandemic and take advantage of processes such as "nearshoring", being present in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey, where they have 55% of the available square meters for rent. for flexible space offers.
