Walmart shifts to omnichannel strategy and will strengthen logistics centers

Within the framework of Walmart Day 2021, the presentation with investors, Wal-Mart de México (Walmex) announced that in 2021 an investment of 22,200 million pesos (mdp) is projected, an amount 33% higher than that channeled in 2020.

Of the total investments, the omnichannel strategy will be one of the main drivers, based on what the retailer announced.

Of the investment that was announced, 5,500 million pesos will be allocated to logistics activities, that is, 25% of the budget, this with the aim of enabling omnichannel growth, improving the service in stores and online, as well as promoting the productivity and efficiency, the company said in a statement to investors.

At the end of 2020, the firm had 20 distribution centers (CDDs) in Mexico, to which will be added the center that was unveiled last November located in Mexicali, and which will operate by 2022.

According to the real estate platform Solili, the industrial market in Mexicali has managed to attract investment thanks to its logistical advantages and competitive prices.

Mexicali currently has 2 million 708 thousand 383 square meters of inventory in its three corridors and there is 112 thousand 430 square meters under construction.

In the area of omnichannel and technology in particular, Walmex announced that it will allocate 10% of the resources announced for 2021, that is, 2,200 million pesos, "the company will continue to invest to position itself as the leading omnichannel retailer in Mexico."
