Location and suppliers of Tesla's Gigafactory Mexico
Cluster Industrial | March 02, 2023 |

The new Gigafactory México will be the largest assembler in the country and will be between federal highway 40 Matehuala-Monterrey and the Monterrey ring road; It will have providers already installed very close. The official announcement was made at Tesla's Investor Day presentation where the first official image was presented, a digital render of the assembly plant that will begin construction this year.

The Governor of Nuevo León, Samuel Garcia, in a video statement, stressed that with Tesla will come a great ecosystem in electromobility, in the aerospace and telecommunications sector, which could generate up to 35,000 jobs, both direct and indirect.

The Cluster Industrial team found the location shown in the official image of Gigafactory México and was able to locate it in Google Earth Pro on a property in the municipality of Santa Catarina located on a corner between the Monterrey ring road and federal highway 40 Matehuala-Monterrey.

The location is similar to Gigafactory Texas, located just off Highway 446 in Austin. It is located very close to the Terralta golf course and country club, the CFE Villa de García substation, the Periférico toll booth and the Monterrey-Saltillo highway concessionaire. Nearby are the following industrial parks: Gonher Industrial Park, Diamante Industrial Park, FINSA Santa Catarina I and II Industrial Park and Advance Industrial Park.

By superimposing images of the plant with the terrain taking into account topographic elements, the Cluster Industrial team estimated that the Tesla factory building would be approximately 800 meters long by 420 meters wide.

In the render, it can be seen that the plant will have vertical integration, as is the case with assembly plants such as the BMW Group San Luis Potosí, that is, it will be able to carry out its production at various levels.

“This is characteristic of the most modern vehicle assembly plants in the world, and especially electric vehicles, in which Tesla has innovated and set the line for innovation,” says Daniel Romo, Business Intelligence leader for the Automotive Directory platform.

With these estimates and the shape of the industrial building shown in the render, Cluster Industrial obtained an approximate area of 324,000 square meters for the assembly plant, within an approximate area of 512,000 square meters, considering parking lots, entrances, and maneuvering yards, although it has been mentioned that the total land for Tesla and its suppliers could be up to 1,000 hectares.

Of interest: Tesla will build a plant in Monterrey

A number of major Tesla suppliers are located slightly northwest of the Gigafactory Mexico location, up the ring road at several of the aforementioned industrial parks, including: Nemak (plants 1 and 2, Maquinados, HPDC), Vitro, Vertiv, Noah Itech, Mahle Planta Santa Catarina, AGP Glass and IAC Group Monterrey (console systems, door panels and instrument panel)

Other Tesla suppliers in the Monterrey metropolitan area include Quanta Computer, maker of chips for Tesla, Brembo maker of brakes. They would also be in the Forvia environment, which invested 147 million dollars to build two plants in 2022 and ZF Group, which in 2021 invested in a project that included a plant, corporate and R&E in Nuevo León.
