Transport and logistics rebound with 15.3% of FDI in Mexico

After that during the first quarter of last year (1Q21) the foreign direct investment (FDI) that captured the transport and logistics sector in Mexico will hit historical minimum levels, with just 18.9 million dollars (mdd), for the same period of 2022 (1Q22) amounted to 2 thousand 979.1 million dollars (15.662% more), according to data from the Ministry of Economy (SE).

This last amount represented 15.3% of the total FDI that the country received in 1Q22, which was 19,427.5 million dollars, according to preliminary figures.

For this first quarter of 2022, the Air transport sub sector accounted for 10.7% of the total FDI with 2 thousand 075.3 million dollars, at a time when the country has completed a year in which it has been downgraded to Category 2 in aviation security by the government of The United States and its airlines have increased their flights between the two territories, without the locals being able to do so.

The Pipeline Transportation sub sector reached 600.3 million dollars (3.1% of the total), while in 1Q21 there was a divestment of -144.5 million dollars, according to official data.

Transportation-Related Services followed with $287.4 million or 1.5% of the total.

A smaller share was occupied by Storage services with 9.2 million dollars, Courier and parcel services with 5.6 million dollars and Water transport with 1.3 million dollars.

The other subsectors, such as Rail transport, Freight motor transport, Land passenger transport and Tourist transport, registered zero FDI inflows during 1Q22.
