On Avenida de las Américas, one of the most iconic in Guadalajara, the Helix Tower is located, which depending on the direction in which the road is taken, the building acquires a different perspective.

This is achieved by a slight rotation of 28 degrees in its structure that occurs gradually in its 18 levels. The rotation is designed to achieve energy savings in its two commercial floors and the 16 offices.

"The shift is due to the fact that it saves energy, because the plants are oriented more and more to the north and this shift causes it to shade itself," says Eider Echeverría, project leader, in an interview.

The tower is supported by a center that is maintained on all its floors and allows its rotation. From when the idea of the complex was had, which was in charge of Craft Arquitectos, until the construction work began, two years passed. Subsequently, its construction process was enrolled in the LEED Core & Shell certification.

The objective had to be achieved without damaging the ecosystem located outside. Therefore, it was decided that the vehicular access would be in Rio de Janeiro and the exit in Avenida de las Américas, in order to avoid impacts in terms of mobility to the Providencia residential neighborhood, located behind the building.

The project, of a mixed nature, covers an area of 26 thousand square meters of total construction. In addition to what can be seen from the outside, it has eight underground parking floors for 400 cars, this being one of the main complexities due to the excavation and the type of rock that was in place.

Torre Helix has a pedestrian access resolved by ramps that absorb the gap between Avenida de las Américas and Rio de Janeiro, which generates a kind of transition for the different uses of the building through a small public square.
