The German tier 1 company thyssenkrupp Material Services continues its expansion in North America and has confirmed the construction of a new plant for the Mexican Materials division in San Luis Potosí.
In the city of Bajío, the company is investing around $37 million dollars in a service center that will support the future viability of the automotive components industry, especially those related to lightweighting, sustainability and electromobility.
The investment will enable the group to strengthen its leadership position in the North American market and further align its service business to changing customer needs.

In total, Thyssenkrupp Materials Services has invested around US$102 million in the North American market in the last 12 months.
The centerpiece of the new location is a Schuler die cutting line used to cut high-strength steel and aluminum dies for the automotive industry.
Due to its low weight, aluminum helps reduce emissions and is used to a much greater extent in electric vehicles. The automotive industry is responding to the growing demand caused by the faster transition to electric mobility and the stricter emission standards of countries such as the United States.

The new site in San Luis Potosí will join the company's existing service center in Silao, located some 125 kilometers away, which already has an aluminum cutting line, to be the only facilities in the country to offer this service. All automotive aluminum blanks not produced at these sites will need to be imported as prefabricated parts from the US.
Thyssenkrupp Materials de México currently has three service centers in the country, located in Saltillo, Silao y Puebla, very close to numerous OEMs and suppliers to the automotive industry.
