Trends that will mark the world of work in the coming months in Mexico
El Economista | January 24, 2022 |

From the shortage of talent for specialized roles and hiring by skills to the reinforcement of flexible work schemes, the topics on the agenda of the world of work for the coming months of 2022 will be varied.

If 2021 and 2022 were a photograph, the image of the world of work would be totally different. The world of work underwent transformations over the past year.

Regulations, new worker expectations, labor flexibility, talent shortages and mental health issues are just some of the issues that shaped the labor agenda last year. In the coming months, the changes will continue and the observed trends will be consolidated.

“It will be about consolidation as many workplace trends come to the fore: economic recovery, flexible working, the green transition, sustainable and inclusive business models, digital transformations and more,” said Alain Dehaze, CEO of Adecco Group in an article for the World Economic Forum (WEF).

According to LinkedIn, trends such as flexibility, internal mobility and hiring based on skills will be more visible during 2022 and will shape new ways of working and perceiving the world of work.

According to Adecco and LinkedIn, flexibility to attract and retain talent stands out among the main trends that will shape the labor market this year

amid a talent shortage landscape where the virus itself affected people's health and ability or willingness to return to the workplace.

According to data from LinkedIn, 81% of senior executives globally are changing their corporate policies to offer greater flexibility to their workforce so they can decide whether to work from home or in the office, which will result in a significant increase in productivity rates.

Hiring for skills, competencies, and even certifications and not for titles will be another trend that we will see in 2022. According to LinkedIn, this new ideology of attracting talent will be a key piece for companies in Mexico, since it will allow them to have more diverse workforces, while helping the professional stand out in such a competitive market.

The transition to the green economy implies adopting a human-centered approach to climate change mitigation and adaptation and prioritizing investments in people to ensure that the green transition ahead is fair and inclusive”, explains the CEO of Adecco .

In this sense, it is important that organizations identify the skills that their business will need in the next two or five years and, based on this, train all their personnel, from operational workers to executives.

The prioritization of internal mobility will make companies focus on seeking to improve their results, while offering better opportunities for their workers. According to LinkedIn, employees are twice as likely to stay in the companies they favor internal mobility over those that do not.

Other trends that are reinforced are digital transformation and hybrid work, within the framework of diversity and inclusion, where the seek to balance the mental health of the worker will be decisive.

According to Glint, employees who feel safe at work are 3.2 times more happy to work at your company and 3.7 times more likely to recommend your company as a good place to work.

Finally, equitable access to social security especially for informal workers, as well as for the self-employed, for example, in the context of platform work will be another area where progress is expected.

This year the world of work will continue to transform and some of the trends seen in the last two years will become the norm.
