Tacubaya will now house a new housing concept
Forbes | February 01, 2022 |

Tacubaya used to house an informal settlement of precarious housing that will now be transformed into a housing unit. The former informal housing camp was known as the “lost city” of Tacubaya, a 100-year-old settlement located at Héroes de la Intervención 30, Mayor Miguel Hidalgo.

The neighbors will decide the name of the new complex that will replace the camp, which shows an advance of 92%, according to the Secretary of Urban Development and Housing, Rafael Gómez Cruz.

The new complex is made up of 16 buildings and 185 apartments with an average commercial value of 2.5 million pesos.

One of the city's mottos is innovation and rights, thus guaranteeing the right to housing.

The construction was financed with 143 million pesos contributed by different real estate developments adhered to the Tacubaya Cooperation Action System.

The demolition of the old camp began in September 2020, the construction began in December of the same year and it is expected that next February the 185 apartments will be delivered to the same number of families who lived in the so-called "Lost City" of Tacubaya.

According to the general director of the Capital Housing Institute (Invi), Anselmo Peña Collazo, the 185 apartments measure 51 square meters and are made up of a kitchen, a laundry area, a living room, a bathroom and two bedrooms.

The maintenance of the housing complex will be paid for by the tenants themselves, who must form a condominium association.

In addition, the unit will have a Point of Innovation, Freedom, Arts, Education and Knowledge (PILARES) for the benefit of more than 600 people who will live on that site.

Peña Collazo pointed out that a similar project will be built in the Atlampa neighborhood, Cuauhtémoc mayor's office, on a property that was donated by Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) to the city government for 250 families that today live in nine informal camps such as the one in the "city Lost” of Tacubaya.
