Smurfit Kappa, a manufacturer of paper-based packaging, will invest $13.8 million in its plant in Mexicali, Baja California, to increase its capacity and serve companies that are coming to the region through nearshoring.

The investment includes the acquisition of 2 machines and updates in one area, to become a strategic ally for companies located in northern Mexico and those considering locating their production centers in this area.
Data from the consulting firm Deloitte indicate that due to nearshoring, manufacturing could grow up to 5% per year in the country. Meanwhile, Solili reported that Monterrey, Saltillo, Tijuana and Ciudad Juárez are the markets in northern Mexico that concentrate the construction of industrial warehouses.

Juan Pablo Pérez, CEO of the Irish-born manufacturer in North America, mentioned that the investment will allow them to optimize times, since, by improving shipments between regions "we can speed up deliveries to customers," he told Forbes Mexico.
The firm has the qualities to partner with companies from various sectors, and boost their growth, thanks to its focus on innovation, based on combining science, big data and creativity. In the last 5 years, Smurfit Kappa has invested around $350 million in Mexico.
