Siemens accelerates sustainability goals and investments

With the release of its Sustainability Report covering corporate, social and environmental (ESG) governance for fiscal year 2022, the company announced new and more ambitious goals for its own decarbonization, as well as extensive investments.

Siemens also disclosed customer emissions avoided through its products and solutions sold in 2022, approximately 150 million tons, based on an updated future impact calculation methodology in accordance with the principles outlined in the Protocol Reporting Standard. of Greenhouse Effect Gases (GHG).

For her part, Judith Wiese, Director of People and Sustainability and member of the Board of Directors of Siemens AG, expressed that they firmly believe that technology is the answer to creating a sustainable future. At the same time, our products and solutions help our customers achieve their sustainability goals and solve their specific challenges, multiplying the impact on the backbone of economies and societies."

The company aims to significantly accelerate the reduction of carbon emissions and, to this end, has set an interim goal of reducing physical CO2 emissions in its own operations by 55% compared to 2019 levels by the end of fiscal year 2025.

By committing to the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative, Siemens is supporting the goal of the Paris Climate Agreement and making a positive contribution to limiting climate change to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Siemens also made significant progress on its resource efficiency, for example, reducing its landfill waste by 12% and increasing its material recycling share of total waste to 84% in fiscal 2022.
