Industries that concentrate the industrial potential of Querétaro

In Querétaro, the main industry is manufacturing, which generates 30% of the state's gross domestic product, which makes it the greatest economic driver according to data from the Querétaro Secretariat for Sustainable Development (Sedesu).

This area includes industries such as automotive, aerospace, and those linked to plastic, where the work of the organizations adhered to them stands out, which through the clusters has generated joint actions through the Triple Helix model, which links companies with the academy and the government.

The automotive industry employs more than 32,000 people in the state and produces merchandise worth more than 3,200 million dollars annually with purchases of more than 2,120 million dollars each year, according to the Querétaro Industrial Cluster.

Among the companies that appear in this sector, based in Querétaro, are Tremec, MAN Truck & Bus México, Dana, Hitachi Cable Querétaro and Harman, to name a few.

That same year, exports from this entity totaled more than 11,738 million dollars, 50.5% was for the manufacture of transportation equipment, corresponding to 5,932 million dollars, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

Figures from Sedesu indicate that from 2015 to the second quarter of 2021, the manufacture of vehicle parts has received 1,346.5 million dollars of direct foreign investment.

Likewise, during the referred period, 82 investment projects in the automotive sector were completed, the highest number of investments registered during the state administration that just concluded, equivalent to more than 32,028 million pesos and the generation of 21,566 jobs.

For its part, the aerospace sector has had an outstanding development in the last decade in Querétaro, according to figures from the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry, 50 aerospace companies are located here, only surpassed by Baja California with 97, followed by Sonora and Chihuahua, with 58 and 52, respectively.

Safran, Bombardier, Airbus, Aernnova Aerospace and Latécoère stand out in the sector, employing more than 8,500 people, according to data from Sedesu. The Financial Times ranked the state eighth globally in the Foreign Direct Investment performance category of the Aerospace Cities 2020/21 ranking.

Likewise, 22 investment projects in the aerospace sector were completed between 2015 and the first half of 2021, which positioned this industry as the second largest number of investment projects completed in Querétaro during the referred period.

Aeronautical companies established in the state specialize in the manufacture of airframes, landing gear, stabilizers, structures, insulators, electrical harnesses, turbine components, turbine design, repair of composite materials, maintenance services and assembly of light aircraft.

The plastic and metal industry is another highly dynamic sector that, between January and August 2021, produced the equivalent of 19 thousand 343 million pesos, 7.43% of the total value of the production generated in Querétaro, employing more than 29 thousand 853 queretanos.

For its part, the Monthly Survey of the Manufacturing Industry, published by Inegi, refers to the manufacture of metallic products in the period, produced 10,190 million pesos, during the first semester of 2021, a growth of almost 30%, in comparison with the same period of 2020.

For this gear to generate these performance figures, the entity has more than 40 industrial parks located in the main submarkets of the city, such as: February 5, AirportMexico-Querétaro, Querétaro-Celaya, Querétaro-San Luis Potosí and San Juan del Río.
