Construction sector in CDMX would be enhanced with nearshoring

That the Government of Mexico City seeks to take advantage of nearshoring by attracting corporations opens an opportunity for the construction sector, said the president of the Mexican Chamber of Construction (CMIC) of the capital, Marcela Heredia Izquierdo.

The private sector will seek to generate new complexes for corporations related to supply chains, as well as to adapt the current buildings that the city has, which have not been modified for post-pandemic times.

He stated that within this strategy as a local CMIC, in addition to seeking hand in hand with local authorities, they will also approach different commercial representations related to nearshoring.

“We are going to be working on a new line of action within the chamber that will be to approach the different commercial representations that are here in the city to detect the areas of opportunity that companies affiliated with the Mexican emissions can take advantage of. . We already have the first approaches to try to take advantage of this moment”, he stressed.

In addition to nearshoring, according to the local CMIC, for the construction sector in the city to recover, the private sector needs to participate more in mobility and connectivity projects.

“We also seek to collaborate more with the Reconstruction Commission, we have been in constant coordination. We also seek to represent the interests of the members of this chamber”, pointed out the construction business leader.

Only for the city it is necessary that the investment in work can be equivalent to 2.5% of the national GDP, currently around 0.2%, according to CMIC.

In addition, as part of the current plan to trigger nearshoring, work is being done with the State of Mexico, which seeks to offer the two entities at a regional level.

Here we are highlighting that we not only have the Vallejo industrial zone, but also the State of Mexico with its industrial zones, with its communication routes for the transport of merchandise, that we have the Felipe Ángeles airport,” the official reiterated.
