During the last six years and with the arrival of important transnational assembly companies such as General Motors and BMW in San Luis Potosí, the entity managed to position itself as the second economy nationwide in automotive specialization.

Likewise, the entity is in the seventh position among the most important manufacturing economies at the national level for its value in exports and industrial activity.

This was reported by the Secretary of Economic Development SEDECO, noting that manufacturing activity has been the leader in the economic development of the state, mainly with regard to the volume of exports, with the manufacture of automobiles.

This added to the food industry, basic metal industries; and that of plastic and rubber, which contribute 87.4% of the total value of manufacturing GDP.

"They are the main axes of economic improvement due to the export of products such as parts and accessories of automotive equipment, confectionery, rails, laminates and plastics for transport or packaging, among others," he added.

Likewise, of the total jobs generated in the state, 84 thousand were from the more than 239 supplier companies in this sector for the manufacture of automobiles at GM and BMW.

For their part, in the past year, among the companies in the automotive industry that arranged investments (or expansions) are: Sunmetals, Asiaway, Banner, Mayco Automotive International, Aplintec, and Zoppas Industries. 

Other non-automotive companies such as Grupo Motomex, Goldbeck Solar and Perennials are also installed in the entity.
