Alto Nivel | October 02, 2023 |

Google Cloud, the division of the cloud services technology giant, will open a “region” in Querétaro in 2024 and will be the third in Latin America after Brazil and Chile, confirmed the firm's general director, Julio Velázquez.

“We already have the site identified, we already know how to make a region in a country. We have done it in several places, but behind there are many dependencies of the same country, the permits, the suppliers. So we are going at a very good pace and we are months away from being able to announce it, it will be in Querétaro,” said the manager in a meeting with the media on Thursday within the framework of the Google Cloud Summit in Mexico.

Although he did not give a specific date or investment amounts, Velázquez assured that they are “months” away from opening the region in Mexico, although it will not happen in 2023, so it will surely be until 2024.

However, he stated that this technological hub in Querétaro could create up to 117,000 direct and indirect jobs.

In Google Cloud, a “region” refers to a specific geographic location where Google has data centers to offer cloud infrastructure services.

Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is made up of a global network of regions and zones that allows users to run applications and store data in strategic locations around the world. Each Google Cloud region is made up of one or more data centers in the same geographic area, providing redundancy and high availability.

Google Cloud currently has 37 regions with a presence in more than 200 countries and territories. More regions will open soon in Austria, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Malaysia, Norway, New Zealand, Mexico (Querétaro), South Africa, Sweden and Thailand.

Julio Velázquez added that several clients, such as banks, are already asking them to make the official announcement of the region in Mexico because this will allow them to comply with regulatory requirements related to data sovereignty; That is, they remain in national territory.
