Querétaro will receive 5 data center for 300 million dollars in the next 2 years

Querétaro expects to host five mega-projects of data centers with plans to materialize in the next two years and that in sum means 300 million dollars in investment.

The entity is forged as a reference for the installation of data centers; Currently there are projects in planning to settle in the entity, where its location in the center of the Mexican territory is favored with the proximity to the country's capital, which is combined with good weather conditions, to name some of the conditions that make it an ideal location.

In Latin America, Querétaro has become one of the main geographical points where there is interest in establishing this type of investment, highlighted the commercial director of the International Computer Room Experts Association (ICREA) - association specialized in data center design and operation–, Carolina Cortés.

“First, the location of Querétaro helps to have this type of megaprojects; second, to apply the norm, refrigeration, the climate of Querétaro lends itself to that. The city was organized in such a way so that where there are data center infrastructures, it is sought that they are close to Mexico City, to an airport, in addition to the issue that its air, its climate is appropriate for this type of equipment ”, he detailed.

In the area they also identify aspects such as personnel specialized in the construction and equipping of this type of infrastructure.

The development of data centers is a trend that increased after the Covid-19 pandemic, given the demand in connectivity and the technological leap that the health contingency generated.

“The connectivity, the data will continue to exist, what brought the pandemic was that industrial development of 10 years in two years. The way of doing business, teleworking, platforms are used all the time, in social networks the use is four times more than before the pandemic ”, he explained.

The effects of the pandemic were also reflected in the demand for data center certification services; For ICREA, the demand tripled after the Covid-19, coupled with the increase in the installation of centers.

Querétaro is expected to attract large investments in data centers in the short term, however, there is the challenge of guaranteeing the energy supply for its implementation, said Governor Mauricio Kuri González.

For this reason, the state government is in talks with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to identify supply systems that give the entity greater energy viability.
