Querétaro seeks to be more competitive by increasing energy capacity
Lider Empresarial | July 07, 2023 |

The state of Querétaro plans to expand its energy capacity with the construction of energy substations and 144 kilometers of high voltage lines, according to a study by the National Center for Energy Control (CENACE).

The leverage, which would be paid within a period of five years before the end of the current state administration, would be used for the acquisition of public transport vehicles and for social works, as well as for projects that boost the entity's energy.

Gerardo Ángeles Herrera, president of the Planning and Budget Commission of the local Congress, emphasized that the energy distribution network is saturated in the state, so it is necessary to expand its demand.

"Having energy infrastructure has become a primary factor in attracting investment," he said.

According to the approved opinion, the demand for energy in Querétaro comes mainly from the industrial sector since, from 2010 to 2020, the sale of electrical energy had an average annual growth of 4%, according to data from the Ministry of Energy.

It also revealed that the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) Transmission Zone Bajío Central indicates that the maximum demand in the state in 2022 was 1,307 megawatts, while the electricity demand needs are 899.92 megawatts, according to a diagnosis applied by the State Energy Agency.

Likewise, six switching substations must be created for the connection of 19 triple A load centers with a total demand of 899.92 megawatts and 144 km of 115 kV high voltage lines.
