
Given the effect of nearshoring, Guanajuato Puerto Interior (GPI) sought to add 200 hectares to its facilities, housing more companies. Currently this dry port has a capacity of 5% expansion, intended for companies in operation.
Héctor López Santillana, general director of GPI, specified in an interview with T21 that this new expansion would be carried out through individuals, owners of the land.
He pointed out that of the remaining capacity, the next one will be carried out in 2024 and 2025 when the investments of the companies that currently operate there are consolidated. Work is also underway on integration with the 12 nearby rural communities, as well as strengthening digital connectivity.

Regarding the Interior Port II that will be located in Celaya, he stressed that this facility will pay to boost the logistics of steel, grain and household appliances. It is expected to start work this year with the objective that the start-up be in conjunction with that of the Celaya Railway Bypass.
“The rail connection is strategic. It is an alternative of several products to move them by train. If we want to continue improving our competitive position as Mexico, we need to develop multimodal or intermodal systems, and use the train for those distances or products where this transport has large capacities, and also generates fewer CO2 emissions into the atmosphere”, he commented.
He also mentioned security, social impact programs to combat poverty, as well as actions to have better logistics and infrastructure that allow the mobility and connectivity of companies and citizens to be triggered.
In this sense, López Santillana specified that through the experience with Guanajuato Puerto Interior, the aim is to define preliminary projects so that they are incorporated into the investment portfolio of the Plan and that they can be taken up by other administrations.

In the short term, the first infrastructure projects will be developed, such as the construction of new highways, which will allow the connection of two of the main nodes in automotive production.
