PetStar expands operations in Nuevo León

With the intention of tripling the collection capacity of PET containers, Arca Continental and Coca-Cola México invested 50 million pesos in PetStar to expand their operations at their plant in Escobedo, Nuevo León, where they will generate 200 jobs.

The expansion allows increasing recycling production, going from 6,300 tons of containers to 18,400 tons per year, which is equivalent to 811 million plastic bottles.

This expansion of PetStar will benefit more than 180 businesses or collector partners dedicated to the purchase and sale of recyclable materials, promoting, in turn, the social mobility of more than 11,000 people dedicated to the recovery of urban waste in 21 municipalities in Nuevo Leon.

Jorge Santos, president of the Board of Directors of Arca Continental, highlighted that through PetStar, they are the main PET recycler in Latin America.

"We want each person to know that by choosing our products, they are making a positive difference by purchasing bottles that contain a percentage of recycled PET; that the boxes that shipped them were made from recycled caps and labels; and that each recycled bottle contributed to the social mobility of 80,000 people, involved in its recovery," he said.

Arca Continental, Coca-Cola México and PetStar's shareholders contemplate an investment amounting to nearly 3,000 million pesos, which will be used to strengthen PetStar's collection and recycling capacity, going from eight to more than 40 centers and recycling plants. collection of PET throughout the country by 2027, managing to collect the equivalent of 100% of the volume that Arca Continental and other bottlers of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry put on the market.
