Occupation of industrial spaces tripled in 2021 according to AMPIP

The year 2021 was extraordinarily good for the industrial real estate sector because, despite the health crisis, the occupation of industrial spaces at the national level tripled.

This was expressed by Sergio Argüelles, in the framework of the swearing-in as the new President of the Mexican Association of Private Industrial Parks (AMPIP) for the period 2022-2023.

Through a statement, they pointed out the sectors that increased their level of occupation the most were the automotive, logistics and electronics, in line with the growth trends of electronic commerce as well as the future of mobility and entertainment in the industry.

He added that 60% of the occupation of industrial buildings are in Ciudad Juárez, Tijuana, Ciudad de México y Monterrey; This last market was the one that registered the greatest growth during the last year, with a 30% market share.

Regarding the future of the sector, Argüelles expressed that among the most important challenges that will be assumed in the coming months are: having competitive infrastructure and support for the parks, mainly in terms of water and energy; give certainty to investments; promote Mexico on international stages, ensure development and training in digital matters, and encourage the operation of a clean industry.

“By 2022, another of our main challenges will be to give new impetus to the relationship with the public administration by supporting actions that benefit the industrial sector, making the pertinent recommendations. As the consultative body that we are, we promote best practices so that the industry remains in evolution and competitive in the face of the new characteristics of the internal and external market”, assured Argüelles.

He also promised to intensify the work of AMPIP to position it as a strategic pillar for the economic development of Mexico.

He recognized the work of the outgoing administration of the AMPIP and expressed that during the health crisis, a period in which they managed to exceed the levels of activity that they had before the pandemic. 

He added that during this period the industrial real estate sector demonstrated that it is an important pillar for the country's economic recovery, by collaborating to attract new foreign capital and giving support to the various international treaties.
