By 2029 in Mexico, the gross domestic product (GDP) could grow 8% with the installation of foreign companies in the country, a phenomenon known as nearshoring.

"Mexico is going through one of its best moments in the last 70 years," said Santander Mexico's director of analysis and strategy, Alan Alanís, who presented the "Nearshoring Data Monitor" report.

He explained that the installation of foreign companies in national territory is a constantly growing phenomenon, which will also be reflected in the short term in 2023 with a 6% increase in imports between Mexico and the United States.

This implies that the scenario of the current 14% of imports rises to 20%, surpassing China, which currently has first place in the matter with 17%.

Each percentage point that Mexico gains in terms of imports would accelerate GDP by 1.3%, added Alanís, who also recognized the potential in investment, demand for suppliers in small and medium-sized companies that currently exist, and that will be reinforced in those states that are already part of industrial corridors, and even in companies established in the southern zone.

In Latin America, Mexico is the leader in international trade with the United States, registering at least 566 billion dollars each year.

The historic opportunity for nearshoring in Mexico is promoted through the attraction of new industrial complexes that already operate in various regions of the world, but are looking to streamline their manufacturing processes.

"The process of relocating factories from China to Mexico or other regions to supply the United States market is an unprecedented trend that Mexico must take advantage of," Santander Mexico's director of analysis and strategy detailed in his report.

The 8% boost to GDP is projected within the next six years, starting in 2023.
