Mexico takes advantage of commercial relocation

Mexico has remained the main partner of the United States with 14.6% of total American trade flows.

Globalization prompted companies to innovate in their outsourcing processes, so many companies found an advantage in relocating their business operations.

This transfer is made to an area closer to the demand, often located on the border, as in the case of Mexico and the United States.

This change means an advantage in the reduction of transfer times, which manages to keep the processes of the product under control before its arrival at the consumer.

Mexico is considered a place with optimal conditions to establish Asian or European companies, thanks to its proximity to the United States and Canada. In addition to the advances obtained through the Free Trade Agreement.

With the arrival of the pandemic, an acceleration process in relocation was shown, due to the pressure exerted on the supply chain, which caused multiple matrices to evaluate Mexico as an ideal partner.

Similarly, North American importers mentioned that the relocation of part of their processes to the country would generate advantages over production costs.

From January to September 2021, the country has remained the main partner of the United States, with 14.6% of total trade flows. These figures surpass Canada and China, countries that registered 14.5% and 13.9%, respectively, of trade flow with the United States.

In figures from Solili, Monterrey and Mexico City concentrate 36% of the gross national demand for industrial buildings, during the same period. What concentrated 981,000 square meters in the northern city and 966 thousand in the capital of the country.

During that period, Tijuana obtained 637 thousand m2 in gross demand, Ciudad Juárez, for its part, concentrated 524 thousand m2 and Saltillo 405 thousand square meters. A percentage of this demand corresponds to manufacturing and logistics locations that were previously in other countries.

Nearshoring in Mexico is beneficial and stands out in a competitive way in the labor cost, obtains tariff benefits and reduces logistics costs. Likewise, it ensures direct communication with the United States and encourages the continuous development of qualified labor.

Some examples of markets that promoted the specialized cluster hand, as well as government support are; Monterrey, Querétaro and Guanajuato. It is expected that by the end of the year and during 2022, the momentum in the consolidation of emerging markets will continue, since nearshoring will continue as a key point for this growth.
