
The foreign direct investment (FDI) received by Mexico in the first half of 2023 amounted to 29.041 million dollars, reported by the Secretariat of Economy of the Government of Mexico.
The amount received was 6% higher than the total registered in the first six months of 2022, when the entry of 27,512 million dollars was registered.

However, the Mexican agency explained that this investment flow "is 41% higher without considering the extraordinary amounts due to the merger (of the companies) Televisa-Univisión and the restructuring of the Aeroméxico company." Preliminary data from the Ministry of Economy indicate that without these operations for almost 6.875 million dollars, FDI to Mexico in the period January-June 2022 was 20.636 million dollars.
FDI in the first half of the year came from 2,189 Mexican companies with foreign capital participation and 2,631 trust agreements. 78% of this foreign investment, 22.609 million dollars, was part of a reinvestment of profits by companies already established in Mexico. New investments in the country contributed 7% and the remaining 15% corresponded to loans and payments between companies of the same corporate group.
In these first six months of 2023, the United States was Mexico's main trading partner, leading the capital injected into the country, followed by Spain, Argentina, the Netherlands, Germany, Argentina, Japan, the Netherlands, Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and France.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy reported that 79% of the FDI received in this period was located in 10 Mexican entities, with Mexico City being the one with the highest capture, with 35% of total investments, equivalent to 10.225 million dollars. Dollars.
Behind this was Nuevo León, in the north of the country, with 2.795 million dollars, 10% of the total; followed by the states of Baja California (1.463 million dollars), Jalisco (1.390 million dollars) and the State of Mexico (1.330 million dollars), which accounted for 5% of the total, respectively.
