With the intention of presenting the economic panorama of Mexico and Guanajuato, the panel "Nearshoring and Mexico's potential for 2024" was held, with the participation of the economist Eduardo Sojo, the Japanese consul in the Bajío, Katsumi Itagaki, and the head of the Secretariat for the Economic Reactivation of León, Guillermo Romero.

The Japanese consul in the Bajío, said that Japan's gaze towards Mexico has changed and has opted for more investment, since there are 1,300 Japanese companies in Mexico, of which 550 are in the Bajío and, of that number, more of 200 are in Guanajuato.

“The advantage of Guanajuato is that there is a long-term public policy. Governments have had a coherent policy in attracting investment. Mainly, it focuses on automotive, logistics, mobility. We need more investment and more diversification of Japanese investments in Guanajuato," he said.

Japan is Mexico's fifth largest trading partner and both countries should give each other space to strengthen their trade relations, said Guillermo Romero. The businessmen of the Bajío have faced an increase in inflation, the pandemic and the increase in the price of the dollar, in the midst of a revaluation that affects exporters from Guanajuato and affects the performance of remittances.

Likewise, Eduardo Sojo made a call to increase or diversify exports, adding that in Guanajuato the first wave of nearshoring has been attended by companies that are already installed in Mexico. He indicated that nearshoring could change the future of our country and especially that of Guanajuato, but there is still a way to take advantage of the phenomenon in its entirety.

Growth projections for Mexico are encouraging, based on the fact that the country could grow at 4% in the next 15 years and exports will increase to 30,000 million dollars.
