Mars Petcare expands operations in Querétaro and invests 100 million dollars

Mars Petcare announced an investment of 100 million dollars, which will be applied over the next three years, for the expansion of its wet food production plant, located in El Marqués, Querétaro.

This expansion represents a strategic investment for the US-based company, said Francisco Ríos, director of Corporate Affairs for Mars Pet Mexico, since the country is among the top five markets in the world for the pet food producer.

The new facilities will have an area of 7,000 square meters and will be completed by the third quarter of 2023.

This expansion will allow the plant to double its operating capacity, reaching a total annual production of more than 70,000 tons, which will translate into more than 55 million packets of wet food per month, from the Pedigree, Whiskas, Cesar and Sheba brands.

Said production will allow meeting the demand of the Mexican market, since the total of the products elaborated in this plant will remain in Mexico. Mars Pet expects the pet food category to grow in double digits this year.

The expansion will adhere to the brand's sustainable policies, so the facilities will have state-of-the-art technology for filling the envelopes, which will allow a more efficient use of energy.

In addition, the plant will obtain its electricity from a wind farm in Dzilam Bravo, Yucatán, as the other seven corporate locations in the country already do (Querétaro, Jalisco, Nuevo León and Estado de México).

It will also have LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification as a sustainable building, which means that it will be designed to save energy and water, and will take advantage of natural light, which will allow 50% savings. in regular light consumption.
