Manufacturing concentrates 8.7 of every 10 export dollars in Mexico
El Economista | June 09, 2022 |

The manufacturing sector is key in the commercial exchange of Mexico. Manufacturing concentrated 8.7 out of every 10 dollars exported last year, with a growth of 16.7% compared to 2020, said Jesús Sáenz González, president of the Northeast Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade (Comce).

Sales of automotive products, which represented almost a third of exports in 2021, grew 14% in the last year. This industry has not been able to recover the dynamism of recent years, due to the reduction in demand for cars, supply and logistics problems, as well as the shortage of semiconductors, he explained.

Regarding imports, he said that manufactures represent 85% of purchases made abroad in 2021. “Mexico depends considerably on its commercial relations with its main trading partner, the United States, which represents more than three quarters of the exports of the country. country".

The trade balance in 2021 presents challenges to achieve greater dynamism in international trade, such as the lack of recovery in automotive exports and the need to have sufficient energy at competitive prices to increase industrial activity.

Comce Noreste considers it important to promote exports as a vehicle to improve the growth and economic development of the country and for this it is necessary for companies to explore new markets, and be surprised to see that Mexican products are highly valued in other countries.

He considered it necessary to invest with a long-term vision, become automated, use state-of-the-art technology, innovate with Industry 4.0 tools, adapt the structures of organizations and align the talent of human capital, with models of participation and teamwork in person and remote.

"By diversifying our exports, the potential offered by the markets of Central and South America is attractive, they are easier to penetrate due to their proximity and similarities in language, history and culture and the acceptance of the consumption of Mexican products," he said.

Therefore, it was considered necessary to design strategies based on the analysis and understanding of the markets, which favor an offer of goods based on greater added value, quality and meeting the potential needs of customers.

He stressed that the COMCE Noreste continues to consolidate its presence in Coahuila y Chihuahua. On the other hand, they are working with the city of Laredo, Texas and with the Corporation for the Development of the Border Area (Codefront) and the Colombia Bridge, in current collaboration agreements.
