The French company Malteurop, part of the Vivescia Group, inaugurated the first malt plant in the country in Meoqui, Chihuahua, with an investment of 112 million euros.

With a production capacity of 120 thousand tons of malt per year, the plant will help Malteurop, which is already one of the largest malt producers in the world, win new business in Mexico.

This project represents the first investment in Mexico by a company in the malt industry, for an investment amount of 112 million euros (120 million dollars) in the last three years.

Malteurop has developed a 100% local supply chain, thanks to the partnership with around 500 local farmers who produce malting barley. The company began planning the malthouse in 2018 together with Heineken and farmers. However, due to the pandemic, construction began until 2021.

Likewise, the president of the Vivescia Group, Christoph Büren, commented that its arrival in Mexico marks a new stage in the international development of its malt business.

“This new malting also highlights French industrial and agricultural expertise, addressing local economic needs and the challenge of sustainability. During the construction of this new malthouse, Malteurop's agronomic and varietal development teams have established a 100% local barley supply chain. This is an extension of our original business model, which is underway in the Vivescia cooperative territory in France."

With the construction of this new industrial site, Malteurop aims to develop the area and consolidate the beer industry in Meoqui, since Mexico is a strong market for beer consumption.
