Expansions set the pace of investments in Mexico

The beginning of 2022 has been fruitful in terms of investment, and is expressed in the number of companies that have decided to invest in the country, both for expansions and for the installation of new operations.

From January to June of this year, the country would have received around 27 thousand 511 million dollars for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), reaching an increase of 12% compared to the same period of 2021, according to the Ministry of Economy.

According to information compiled from 13 industrial entities, it is confirmed that more than 242 companies signed a contract to establish themselves in an industrial area, of which 190 are expansions and 42 are new operating facilities.

Qualified labor, strategic location and a fully developed industrial environment are advantages that companies see in Mexico, said René Guajardo, director of market intelligence at Citius Capital.

Nuevo León was the entity that attracted the most investments, registering during the first half of 2022 about 1,448 million dollars (mdd) of FDI. Quanta Computer's investment of 130 million dollars stands out, Kawasaki will also install an assembly plant for four-wheeled all-terrain vehicles in the Monterrey Interport, the automaker Dana will invest 40 million dollars for the expansion of the company in the entity and the company Tenere installed a 7 thousand square meters invested more than 15 million dollars to start the operations in which it makes cabinets for various industries.

Coahuila also witnessed the arrival of new companies where 24 companies signed an industrial contract, of which 13 are new and 11 are expansions. Kodaco, the Korean company that produces aluminum auto parts, made an investment of 100 million dollars and the Chinese company Hisun Motors invested 152 million dollars to produce off-road vehicles. The companies LG Magna e-Powertrain and Martinrea Fluidos invested 300 million dollars and 45 million dollars, respectively, to expand their plants in the entity.

In Querétaro, the diversification of the industry is key to guarantee solid growth. The entity accounted for more than 12 thousand 463 million pesos of productive investment. During the first semester of 2022, 18 companies decided to settle in Querétaro and 12 of them are expanding.

There have been multiple investments, mainly in the Bajío where Querétaro and Guanajuato have been entities that have captured a large part of the investments at the national level.
