Construction and its ability to innovate with technology
Real Estate Market & Lifestyle | April 18, 2022 |

Specialists projected a complex outlook for the construction industry in Mexico by 2022, since since the last quarter of 2021, it has recorded setbacks in its growth.

However, the World Bank (WB) expects Latin America to grow 2.8% this year and 2.6% by 2023, a situation that would impact Mexico and its industries.

The adoption of technology in the construction industry is an increasingly used trend for project management.

According to the American Express Global Business Spending Indicator, 73% of the companies consulted in Mexico have the digitization and automation of their processes as a priority in 2022.

The companies began a migration towards technological solutions that allow efficient production and administrative processes, as well as maintain open and efficient communication channels with all those involved in the products or projects they develop, Procore said in a statement.

Data from a survey conducted by Procore, completed in May 2021, indicates that large construction companies are gradually abandoning single-point technology solutions and adopting cloud platforms.

The survey also revealed that 61% of companies migrated their project management to digital platforms, however 39% continue to manage their processes manually, or mostly manually.

“The construction industry spends a lot of money on rework. That translates into time, energy, money and resources that could be used to develop a new project.”

Even using processes on paper, Excel, or WhatsApp, a situation that results in projects having a high probability of error, exceeding their budget or being delivered late, the firm said.

Mexican construction companies already implement various technologies, where 65% acquire technology for modular construction, another 62% adopt component prefabrication technologies, 41% innovate with technological tools to improve collaboration in preconstruction, and 36% use software for automation of different processes.
