The sector grew 2.1% annually during the first half of 2026, driven mainly by the recovery of civil works, which returned to positive territory after a year of declines, explained Samuel Vázquez, principal economist at BBVA Research Mexico.

For 2027, BBVA Research estimates that the federal budget project contemplates a real drop of 1.6% in resources for public works. “For 2027 we are expecting a lower budget, in accordance with what was proposed in the Expenditure Budget Project, a drop in constant terms of 1.6% in real terms, which should have an impact on public works,” Vázquez explained.
