The German company Kostal will invest 2,097 million pesos for the construction of its fourth plant in Mexico, the third in Querétaro, where it will produce electronic components for electric vehicles.

The objective is to more efficiently meet the requirements of its customers in the region, said the general director of Kostal Automotive North America, Harry Asher.

Yesterday the firm laid the first stone of the plant that will be built on 41,000 square meters and is located in the FINSA III Industrial Park, in Querétaro. The first phase is expected to be completed in 2023.

They estimate to employ 750 people in its first stage to manufacture on-board chargers and associated components for the electric car market; while the second phase is in planning.

The German ambassador in Mexico, Wolfgang Dold, stressed that the installation of the new plant is essential in the transition to electromobility. German companies, he added, have an active participation in the transition that the automotive industry is undergoing. Meanwhile, he specified that of the 2,000 German firms in Mexico, 20% (400) are in the Bajío.

The diplomat explained that the location of Querétaro, in the center of the country, is one of the reasons that motivated Kostal's decision to increase his investment in the state, because it is a strategic location to export products to the United States and for access to the ports of the two oceans.

During the start of construction of the plant, Governor Mauricio Kuri González added that of the 400 German companies in the Bajío, almost 48% (192) are in Querétaro.

In its new plant, Kostal will have advanced technology to meet the demand for electronic components, in addition to being the first power electronics plant of the firm in North America.
