Doppelmayr Hub in Vallejo will be a nerve center for Latam
Forbes | December 05, 2022 |

Although Doppelmayr had conceived a hub in the Vallejo industrial zone for engineering design, spare parts storage and personnel training four years ago, the importance that Mexico has acquired through nearshoring has made the cable car construction company double its bet for the country

With two Cablebús lines in its portfolio in Mexico City, one in operation at the Gustavo A. Madero City Hall and the other under construction, as well as other cable car projects in the rest of the country and Latin America, Doppelmayr México knows the need to be close to the client in times of uncertainty due to Covid-19 and the war between Ukraine and Russia.

With more than 4 years developing the hub, today it takes on greater relevance based on nearshoring and proximity to the client, as indicated by Konstantinos Panagiotou, CEO of Doppelmayr Mexico.

For a year, the government of Mexico City turned part of its economic strategy into rehabilitating the industrial vocation of Vallejo, in the Azcapotzalco Mayor's Office, where it encouraged the arrival of new companies.

One of these was Doppelmayr, which for the installation of its new hub to open next year has already had an initial investment of 10 million euros. The plan is for this new center of the Austrian firm to serve as the storage of necessary spare parts for various projects in Mexico and Latin America and offer training to operators throughout the continent.

However, the bet goes further. In an interview with Forbes Mexico, the head of Doppelmayr Mexico, Konstantinos Panagiotou, explained that the engineering development of all the company's new cable car projects will no longer be done in Austria, but in Mexico City.

The economic and political stability that exists in the country, its port connectivity in the Atlantic and the Pacific, plus its highway infrastructure, in addition to the commercial opening with other countries, make Mexico a powerful attraction for the arrival of companies such as Doppelmayr Panagiotou emphasized.

In addition to this, the quality of the engineers who are trained in educational institutions in the country further validated the decision.
