The National Chamber of the Housing Development and Promotion Industry (Canadevi), through its president Luis Alberto Moreno, pointed out that, in the coming months, the cost of construction materials will increase by up to 50%.

The increase will bring with it a high impact on the price of housing, as it will raise the average cost of houses up to 17% at the end of 2022.

"The rise occurred since last year, but now it is strongly reflected in some raw materials that were not in that inflationary impact," he commented.

Among the materials that have suffered increases in their prices, is steel, cement and concrete, according to details of the agency. In turn, this is reflected in the cost of copper, aluminum and wood.

The minister reported that the Chamber detected certain states in the country that presented increases of up to 50% in the price of steel, reflected in some products, due to distribution logistics.

“If it is closer to a customs entry point, it is easier to acquire the product; however, on average the increase was 38% at the national level.”

Gómez Monroy assured that it is a global issue, due to problems with Ukraine, one of the main producers of steel and aluminum in Europe.
