Google estimates 1,200 million dollars in investment for Latin America in the next 5 years

Over the next five years, Google plans to invest $1.2 billion to accelerate digital development in Latin America (Latam).

Sundar Pichai, executive director of the company, explained that the resources will be concentrated in four areas: infrastructure, skills and entrepreneurial ecosystem. As well as inclusive and sustainable communities.

Through a statement, the manager said that reaching the full technological potential could generate an annual economic impact of 1.37 trillion dollars by 2030 in six of the largest economies in the region.

One of Google's main investment projects in Latam is the Firmina submarine cable, to be completed in 2023, it is projected to become the world's largest submarine cable, capable of operating from a single power source.

The infrastructure will stretch from the United States to Argentina, with additional land breaks in Brazil and Uruguay. In addition, it follows three other cable investments in Latin America (Monet, Tannat and Curie), which together seek to boost connectivity in the region.

“Our Google Cloud regions in Chile and Brazil offer companies access to computing power and services for success in the digital economy. Looking ahead, they will continue to help more organizations accelerate their transformation,” Pichai said.

For the following years, the company also considers promoting education and technological entrepreneurship throughout Latin America, for which it will award scholarships for Career Certificates to one million people.

“With investment, resources and training from Google for Startups, we have supported more than 450 startups in the region. These have raised more than 9,000 million dollars and created 25,000 jobs,” said the manager.
