Luminar, a leading global automotive technology company, announced the successful construction and commissioning of a new, highly automated, high-volume manufacturing facility in Monterrey, Nuevo León.
Luminar's new high-volume sensor production facility is operated by Celestica, a leader in design, manufacturing and supply chain solutions. This new facility measures 11,000 square meters and will have an initial capacity of up to 250,000 sensors per year, expandable to approximately 500,000 sensors per year. The facility has 3,700 square meters of clean room space that meets ISO specifications for this type of facility.

Celestica is also in the process of building an additional 200,000 square foot expansion to the dedicated Luminar facility, which will allow for state-of-the-art testing for performance and quality, providing flexibility for future expansion of production capacity that it is planned to reach several million sensors annually.
The construction of the plant began in July 2022 and the installation of the high volume line began in December of last year. The company brought this new high-volume line online along with Celestica at the end of the first quarter of 2023, and began operations just as early as the second quarter of the year, ahead of its original goal of starting production in the third quarter.

The new plant is completing a rigorous validation process that will take place throughout the second half of 2023 to meet auto manufacturers' standards and requirements for large-scale new vehicle model launches. Celestica also operates a low volume production line for Luminar at another plant located in Monterrey.
