There are at least two semiconductor companies interested in settling in Querétaro, confirmed the state president of the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra), Esaú Magallanes Alonso.

These are companies with Mexican capital that have touched base with the Querétaro delegation of Canacintra with whom they held meetings and with the latter they are about to start them. The state government through the Secretariat for Sustainable Development (Sedesu) will be linked with the companies to follow up on their investment intentions.

These projects stand out in the face of the semiconductor crisis that persists in supply chains, particularly impacting the automotive industry.

The annual meeting of the High-Level Economic Dialogue Mexico-United States (DEAN), in which the country was invited to be part of the production of semiconductors, -he stressed- is an opportunity for Mexico, but also for Querétaro.

“There is still a shortage (of semiconductors), and with the meeting that Mexico had with the United States, one of the main proposals is to create semiconductor production plants in Mexico; I think it is a great opportunity for Querétaro and for Mexico, that the United States is asking us to create the plants here”, he added.

The local leader of Canacintra said that in the entity there are companies with the capacity to provide inputs to semiconductor manufacturers, in addition to the fact that this type of investment tends to attract product and service supplier bases.

Regarding the shortage of semiconductors for automobiles, Esaú Magallanes said that the situation persists, but to a lesser extent than with the first effects of the pandemic.

According to the head of Sedesu, Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero, there is potential for the state to join the supply chains of the semiconductor industry; However, he has referred, it is complex for companies dedicated to the manufacture of these chips to arrive at the entity, because they are highly demanding of water, while the state has the challenge of guaranteeing the water supply.
