Nearshoring or relocation of production lines will continue to occur in Mexico with a speed that does not occur in other countries, however, it will be necessary to attend if one seeks to take advantage of the opportunities, according to Luis Manuel Hernández, president of the National Industry Council. Maquiladora and Export Manufacturer (Index).

The manager also pointed out that governors of the southern United States could start promoting their states as an option, since they do have the resources, such as water and energy, to receive companies. These markets compete with Mexico, which, although it does have energy, does not have the infrastructure to distribute it.

Therefore, he commented that it is important to begin to see the three countries as a joint region of North America. The working groups that will be held with the Ministry of Economy (SE) will address energy issues in the coming months, Hernández assured.

"What we want is to be allies with the SE, support and try to see where it is faster to implement locations for companies," he said.

Although the Mexican infrastructure has areas of opportunity, nearshoring will continue to benefit the country, for which Luis Hernández assured that the Index will bet on this phenomenon. During the North American Leaders Summit, the industries of these three countries defined a narrow work agenda that includes both Canadian and US manufacturing.

“The goal we have this year is nearshoring, getting closer, seeing what opportunities we have and starting to work in regions within the country, no longer just working in states, but now in regions, as well as starting to consider allies with the south of United States," he said.

The president of the Index pointed out that the Council forecasts growth of between 3% and 5% in the manufacturing industry by 2023, which translates into a 2% increase in employment.
