The building of the National Lottery, in Mexico City, will be rehabilitated, reinforced and preserved with a budget of 47 million 953 thousand pesos, after the opinion that indicated that the one known as the "Moorish building" suffered damage in the earthquakes on September 19 (2017 and 2022).

The works will serve to intervene 336.87 m2 of the surface, such as the structural elements (columns, beams and nodes), rehabilitating 14 thousand 162 m2 of finished surface, respecting the art deco architectural style. This includes interior walls, columns, ceilings, exterior facades, stairs and baseboards.

The plan is to extend its useful life for the next 15 years, given its historical and cultural importance. The building of the National Lottery was inaugurated in 1945 in the Plaza de la República No. 1, Col. Tabacalera of the Cuauhtémoc City Hall and was considered the first skyscraper in the city and at the beginning it housed in its dome the antenna of the Television Company from Mexico (Channel 4).

The Cuauhtémoc mayor's office indicated that it is the first building in the world built by means of elastic flotation. Likewise, it was the first in Latin America to use a neon gas sign and the first place where a television signal was broadcast in 1950.

In 1978 the headquarters of the National Lottery had a second intervention, with which it lost details of its original façade. In a third intervention, carried out in the 1990s, the skyscraper was adapted to the modern buildings on Paseo de la Reforma Avenue.

The change caused the elegance and sophistication, characteristics of its design, to be replaced by a mirror glass exterior. This produced a great contrast with the architectural concept of its interior.

Finally, it underwent a fourth remodeling where it recovered its historical style. This was carried out within the framework of the Bicentennial of Independence and Centennial of the Mexican Revolution.

The restoration work carried out on the façade has revealed the use of Stream Line, one of the great successes of art deco, which predominated in the original project.
