The value of exports from Mexico to Germany in 2021 stood at 7.5 billion dollars, a recovery after the fall in 2020 after the Covid-19 pandemic, most of which corresponds to the automotive sector with 67%.

Given this, Mexico wants to diversify its exports to Germany, which is its fourth commercial destination, and attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), for which the Ministry of Economy has identified a series of opportunities.

Luis Fernando Godoy, director of the Global Economic Intelligence Unit, indicated that an analysis was carried out based on Mexico's world exports, tariffs and ease of trade, and there are sectors that can grow in Germany such as: machines, appliances and mechanical artifacts, as well as nuclear reactors and boilers.

Also, plastics and their manufactures; electrical material, sound and image recording or reproduction devices, parts and accessories for these, he added that another opportunity is the textile sector.

Godoy highlighted that it is sought that more MSMEs be inserted into global value chains in Germany, for this he invited companies to participate in initiatives such as the aforementioned program and in the MX Trade platform.

The Ministry of Economy and the German Embassy in Mexico agreed to continue the "Fit For Partnership" program so that Mexican MSMEs continue to acquire and strengthen their business skills.

“It started in 2014, we have renewed it several times and so far we have 421 Mexican SMEs trained in 18 German high-level entrepreneurship centers specialized in different sectors such as: manufacturing, automotive, food, health, industry 4.0, energy, waste management, software, handicrafts, construction, logistics and services”, explained Ana Bárbara Mungaray, head of the Productive Development Unit at the Ministry of Economy.

This program has had the participation of SMEs from 29 states in the country, but the Secretary of Economy, Tatiana Clouthier, commented that they are going for 100% and although it is face-to-face training, a hybrid scheme was implemented, so that it was also virtual.

Peter Tempel, German ambassador to Mexico, pointed out that this program has allowed Mexican businessmen to find partners in Germany.
