Logistics disruption in traditional segments Carryt's technological commitment

Carryt advances with its sights set on the logistics service of traditional segments in Mexico such as corner stores or "changarritos", as well as catalog sales, both scarcely digitized market niches.

The company of Colombian origin, dedicated itself between 2017 and 2020 to the technological development of logistics solutions for various industries for the secondary distribution of merchandise delivery, focused on granting visibility and customer satisfaction. Carryt's CEO, Daniel Cuervo, says that the company is not focused on the last express mile, nor does it seek to compete with 99 minutes, iVoy or Cargamos.

With the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, companies began to request more route optimization tools and a mostly integrated service, which is why they decided to become a logistics operation company.

They began to make deliveries linking third-party carriers and although they did not have the infrastructure of a traditional logistics operator, they did have the technology, Cuervo said in an interview with T21.

Cuervo observes that in Latin America 60% of mass consumption sales are made in a neighborhood store and there are 2.5 million of them that must be visited weekly, sell and deliver products.

In parallel, at least 40 million people in the region are dedicated to catalog sales, mainly in remote areas of large cities, where large shopping centers or specialized stores still do not arrive.

However, Daniel Cuervo believes that with the introduction of applied technology in logistics and distribution, costs can be reduced by 5 to 10%, generating a profit margin for corner stores and the ability to manage their prices.

His model is based on the installation of what he himself calls "macro cedis", which are warehouses of between 3,000 and 4,000 square meters where they store their customers' products and draw them, and is complemented by points consolidation or dark warehouses.

For this year it is expected to have at least 24 of the latter between Mexico and Colombia.

In the delivery part, Carryt has opted to integrate independent drivers who are paid for completing daily routes, that is, they are in charge of carrying between 100 to 110 customer orders from different channels
