Automotive investments grow by 97.3% during the 3Q 2022 in Mexico

Automotive Directory, a platform specialized in business intelligence, informed its users of the results of the automotive investments registered during the third quarter of 2022, as well as a preliminary advance from the fourth quarter to the month of October.

Daniel Romo, the leader of the Business Intelligence area, commented that during the second quarter of 2022, 68 investment projects were registered between new plants, industrial parks, R&D center and expansions, which was a new record for 2Q 2022.

In the third quarter, 42 more projects were registered and in October alone, 21 additional projects were registered, which indicates a very favorable panorama for the opportunities to link businesses for product and service companies as well as Tier companies due to the expansions and modernizations of several plants. assemblers such as Volkswagen, KIA or Nissan, Romo pointed out.

The company indicated that between January and September of this year, 135 investment projects from 18 countries were registered, of which 81.5% correspond to tier 1, 2 or 3 companies in the automotive value chain, while 6.7% correspond to companies automakers or original equipment manufacturers (OEM). The remaining 3.7% corresponds to investments by companies that provide services and products for the automotive sector.

Regarding the type of investment, they reported that 49.6% of the investments are new developments, while 46.7% correspond to expansions or modernization of existing plants. Another 3.7% of the investments are acquisitions or transfers of existing plants.

As of the third quarter, Mexico accumulated 7,454.6 million dollars in investments in the automotive industry, which indicates a growth of 97.33% compared to the same period in 2021. These investments have in turn created more than 73 thousand jobs and the construction or remodeling of more 6.4 million square meters of industrial real estate in the country.

During the 3Q 2002, investments came in 18.5% from Germany, 16.3% from Japan and 14.1% from the United States. Mexican capital investments have not been far behind either and represent 10.4% of all projects, while Chinese investment in the Mexican automotive sector represents 8.1% until September 2022.
