According to BBVA Mexico, during the month of February 2021, the annual nominal growth of the balance of the current loan portfolio granted by commercial banks to housing was 8.4%.
Which represents a contraction with respect to the immediately previous month, in which a growth of 8.6% was registered; as well as the same month last year, with 10.5 percent.
The bank highlighted that the annual growth of the home loan portfolio has accumulated 12 consecutive months below 10%. This is mainly due to a continuous contraction of the social interest segment; which dates back to March 2016, and reached its lowest point in February 2021, with a fall of 13 percent.
Likewise, the slowdown trend in the housing loan portfolio, which has occurred since October 2019, is largely due to the contraction in formal employment indicators.
